What exactly is the CEED exam?

The Common Entrance Test for Design, or CEED, is administered by IIT Bombay for admission to M.Des and Ph.D. programmes at member institutes.

IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur provide the M.Des programme. Meanwhile, the Ph.D. programme is offered in various IITs and design schools.

The participating institutes will shortlist students based on CEED results, however further admission procedures may be held.

The exam is sponsored by the Industrial Design Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The CEED is a comprehensive test that assesses a student’s analytical, artistic, perceptive, and design abilities. It is used to determine enrollment into various design courses such as product design, industrial design, visual communication, animation graphics, vehicle design, and mobility.

Eligibility for CEED

The eligibility requirements include elements such as age, nationality, academic credentials, and so on that are used to determine if an applicant is qualified to pursue the programmes provided by the participating institutes.

It should be noted that the CEED qualifying criteria only apply to the entrance exam. Entrance standards may differ significantly from institute to institute, thus hopefuls should double-check before applying to their individual institutes.

Requirements for Qualifying for the CEED Test

  • There is no upper age limit. Every applicant, regardless of age, is eligible to take the test.
  • There is no limit to attempts the exam.
  • Any degree that is recognized/Any approved degree/diploma/postgraduate degree programme lasting four years or three and a half years (after the tenth grade) or three years after the tenth grade.
  • Candidates in their final year or awaiting results are also eligible if they produce proof of eligibility at the time of admission.
  • Diploma in GD Arts (10+5 level)
  • Applicants who have successfully completed the graduation are also eligible.

The CEED application form is now closed.

Applications with late costs (INR 500) were open until November 16, 2022, while applications with ordinary fees were open until November 16, 2022. On September 30, online applications were available.

The CEED application is for admission to M.Des and Ph.D. programmes at member colleges.

Applicants who satisfy the stipulated eligibility criteria for their programme must complete and submit the form before the deadline.

Online registration – The candidate must register through the official site by providing their email address, name, date of birth, and other information. An applicant account will be generated upon successful registration.

Check Eligibility – The candidate will next be required to go through an eligibility check process, which will need him or her to input their qualifying exam, passing year, and mobile number.

Fill out the form – Next, provide your personal, academic, and contact information. In addition, the candidate must prioritise THREE exam locations.

Upload documents – The candidate must next upload their photo, signature, and qualifying exam certificates in the format specified.

Payment of the exam cost: After ensuring that the application form is complete in every way, pay the exam fee online with net banking, credit or debit cards.

Overview of the CEED Test

  • For the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED), the organization in charge of administering the CEED test is Bombay Institute of Technology (IIT).
  • The CEED exam lasts 3 hours (180 Minutes)- Part A is one hour long and Part B is 2 hours long. Part A of the exam is online and Part B is offline.

  • The CEED 2023 entrance test took place on January 22 2023, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The CEED 2023 was administered by the examination cell.
  • The CEED 2023 admission card was published on the official website on January 13, . (ceed.iitb.ac.in). Candidates can access the admission card by entering their login information.

It is necessary to bring the CEED exam admission card, as well as a valid identity card, to the test centers for verification.

CEED Exam Syllabus Revised (Effective from 2024)

The syllabus and test methodology for CEED entrance examinations have been revised by IIT Bombay. The redesigned CEED entrance test syllabus and structure will go into force in 2024.

The CEED entrance test question paper will be divided into two sections, according to the revised paper format.

Part A will be conducted by computer-based test and will include three sections: NAT, MSQ, and MCQ.
Part B will have two questions: one regarding drawing and one about design ability.
Part B’s question will be presented on the computer screen, and the response should be written/drawn exclusively in the answer book given by the teacher.
Part B has a running time of 60 minutes.

Part A syllabus as follows:

  • Capacity to see and change 2D and 3D forms and objects, as well as their spatial connections.
  • Practical and scientific knowledge: understanding of scientific concepts and commonplace items.
  • Observation and design sensitivity: The ability to discover and think critically about hidden qualities in everyday life. Detail-oriented thinking, categorization, analysis, inference, and prediction.
  • Environment and society: A general understanding of the environmental, social, and cultural linkages that design has.
  • Analytical and logical thinking: The ability to assess qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Language: Reading and comprehension of Standard English.
  • Imagination: Recognize verbal and nonverbal comparisons, metaphors, signs, and symbols.
  • Art and Design information: Awareness about arts, artists and, art/design history, and trends.
  • Design methods and its practices: Knowledge of media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics are also included in part A.

Part B syllabus as follows:

  • Drawing: The ability to sketch products, people, or scenes with high line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
  • Design aptitude: The capacity to respond to problems/situations with innovation and sensitivity in a practical and suitable manner.
  • Creativity: The ability to think beyond the box and come up with original and different ideas.
  • Communication: The ability to express concepts and ideas clearly through words and graphics.

CEED Admissions Card

The CEED admit card will be accessible for download on the official website. To get the CEED test admit card, candidates must first log in to their dashboard. After downloading, aspirants must check the data for accuracy and bring a color printout of the same to the test center, along with a prescribed valid Photo ID.

CEED Counseling

There is no specific counseling for admissions to Design via the Common Entrance Test. Instead, participants must enroll independently to the institute of their choosing from the list of participating institutes if they match the unique eligibility conditions of each. The authority distributes the rankings in accordance with the seat allotment lists.
