Admissions into electronics and communication engineering programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels are facilitated through various entrance exams.
JEE Main: Joint Entrance Exam (Main) – This is the initial stage of a two-stage joint entrance examination. It is conducted for undergraduate admissions into all the NITs (National Institutes of Technology) and various state-level engineering colleges. The exam lasts for three hours and is conducted online.
JEE Advanced: Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced) – This exam is specifically for admissions into the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and can only be taken by students who have qualified in the first stage, i.e., JEE Main. The exam spans six hours and includes questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
ECE GATE: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (ECE GATE) – Conducted by IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) and IISc (Indian Institute of Science), this exam is for admission to postgraduate programs in engineering.
Other Exams: Various state-level examinations such as WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) for West Bengal, MHT CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) for Maharashtra, UPSEE (Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination) for Uttar Pradesh, and BCECE (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination) for Bihar are conducted by the respective State Boards for admissions into both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in colleges within their states.
UGC/CSIR (JRF)/NET/SET/SLET: These exams are conducted for admission to doctoral programs in various private universities. The universities themselves organize these exams, and they include the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), State Eligibility Test (SET), and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET).
